The Girl
Hannah Boyle is much loved by her father but hated and reviled by his wife Anne. When tragedy befalls the Thornton household, Anne exacts her revenge on Hannah, who has grown into a beautiful woman. She forces her into a humiliating marriage with Fred Loam, the local butcher. But then Ned Ridley, who had earlier befriended the orphaned Hannah, re-enters her life and teaches her the meaning of love and passion. Calling on all her inner strength, Hannah survives the bitterness and violence which threaten to engulf her, to find eventual happiness with the man she loves.
